TC Activities Secretary-General YANG Houlan attended the 2nd Trilateral GeoSummit

On June 20th, 2017, Secretary-General YANG Houlan attended the opening ceremony and the leaders’ meeting of the 2nd Trilateral GeoSummit at the Maison Glad Jeju Hotel. The GeoSummit was organized by the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM), China Geological Survey (CGS) and Geological Survey of Japan (GSJ). SG YANG delivered a keynote speech in the opening ceremony. It is for the first time that the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) is invited to attend the GeoSummit. Dr. Joong-Ho Synn, the President of KIGAM, Dr. Zhang Hongtao, the Counsellor of the State Council of China, Dr. Yusaku Yano, the Director General of GSJ, and around 80 scholars and experts on Geoscience also attended the 2nd Trilateral GeoSummit.
In the keynote speech, SG YANG highlighted the great potential of Trilateral Cooperation, and introduced the TCS’ main role as the stabilizer and thruster of Trilateral Cooperation. He encouraged the attendees of the three countries to contribute their wisdom to strengthen trilateral cooperation on Geoscience, which is a very important part of trilateral cooperation on Science and Technology. He also expressed his sincere willingness to provide support.
During the 2nd Trilateral GeoSummit, attendees from the three countries delivered presentations at four Technical Sessions on Active Fault, Coastal Geology, GIS, and Gas Hydrate and one Workshop on 3D Geological Modelling. At the MOU signing ceremony, CGS and GSJ, CGS and Gas Hydrate R&D Organization of Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of ROK respectively signed MOU to strengthen further cooperation. The three organizations also agreed that the 3rd Trilateral GeoSummit will be held in Japan in July, 2019.
The 1st Trilateral GeoSummit was held in Beijing in April 2015, and the three organizations decided to hold the GeoSummit every two years. The ultimate goal of the GeoSummit is to step forward for a better future of Northeast Asia through conducting joint research projects in the field of Geoscience.
