2024-05-30
Following the 9th Trilateral Summit, on May 30, 2024, the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) hosted its annual 'TCS Day' celebration at Cheonggye Plaza in Seoul. The event commemorated the "Memorandum on the Establishment of the TCS" signed by the governments of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea (ROK) in Jeju on May 30, 2010. Nearly 4,000 visitors joined the event.
During the Opening Ceremony, Deputy Chief and Minister of the Chinese Embassy, FANG Kun, Minister of the Japanese Embassy, YAMAMOTO Mondo, and Director for Asian and Pacific Regional Cooperation Division of ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, KIM Sura, delivered congratulatory remarks.
In his opening remarks, TCS Secretary-General LEE Hee-sup highlighted the reinvigoration of trilateral cooperation following the recent 9th Trilateral Summit held in Seoul after a hiatus of four years and five months. He reaffirmed TCS's commitment to deepening cooperation in diverse fields and expanding projects to bring the real benefit to the people of China, Japan, and the ROK.
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Trilateral Cooperation, a digital booklet titled “A Glance at the History of Trilateral Summit Meetings: Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Trilateral Cooperation” was launched. The booklet, detailing Trilateral Summit meetings since 1999, offers the public a glimpse into the history of trilateral cooperation.
The celebration continued with various cultural performances, including a calligraphy demonstration of the word 'Communication (交流)' and musical performances by artists from China, Japan, and the ROK. TCS also introduced its significant projects, such as the Trilateral Statistics Hub (TSH) and the Trilateral Common Vocabulary Dictionary, through several interactive booths. Visitors had the opportunity to take photos with the TCS mascot, try calligraphy, and test their knowledge of trilateral economic cooperation through quizzes.
Additionally, the event featured photo exhibitions that showcased TCS flagship projects, reflecting on the journey of TCS in promoting cooperation among China, Japan, and the ROK.
In partnership with the Korea China Association for Cultural Exchange, Urasenke, and Gyeongju City, TCS Day offered visitors the opportunity to experience traditional Chinese culture, Japanese tea ceremony, and the Silla culture of Korea.
