2024-01-31
On January 31, 2024, the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) and UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Office for the Northeast Asia& Global Education and Training Institute (ONEA & GETI) together released a report titled Trilateral Best Practices Report: Tools and Technologies for Earthquake Risk Management: Sharing Experience from Northeast Asia. The report was published in collaboration with the National Disaster Reduction Centre of China (NDRCC), the Asian Disaster Reduction Center (ADRC) in Japan, the Ministry of Emergency Management of the People’s Republic of China (MEM), the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan (CAO), the Ministry of the Interior and Safety of the Republic of Korea (MOIS) and with contribution from the National Emergency Management Agency of Mongolia (NEMA).
The report is mainly based on case studies presented at a regional online workshop organized by TCS and UNDRR in 2023. Through eight case studies, the report presents the latest technologies in earthquake risk assessment and early warning, as well as community-level capacity development and infrastructure resilience measures put in place by countries in Northeast Asia. The publication also includes some recommendations for further capacity development to support resilience building efforts in the context of earthquake risk.
This is the second publication produced by TCS and UNDRR GETI related to disaster risk reduction since Trilateral Best Practices: Application of technology for Reducing Disaster Risks in China, Japan, and Korea was issued in 2021.
